Yes. Ultrasound has been used in pregnancy care for decades and is considered safe when performed properly. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound does not use radiation. Instead, it uses sound waves to create images of your baby. The FDA, ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists), and many studies have found no confirmed risks to mothers or babies when an ultrasound is used responsibly.

At Sunbeam Sonogram, our scans are elective and non-diagnostic. That means they’re not intended to replace your doctor’s medical ultrasounds or prenatal care. Instead, our sessions are for bonding, joy, and keepsake purposes — giving you a chance to see your baby’s tiny features and movements in ways that feel more personal and memorable.

Most families choose 2 to 3 elective sessions during pregnancy — often in the second or third trimester when the baby’s features are easier to see. There’s no set medical limit on how many times you can have an ultrasound for bonding, but because our sessions are elective, we recommend discussing frequency with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns. We are happy to give you that sneak peek any time you just need to see baby, or have the reassurance that all is well. 

• Heat/energy from ultrasound: Our machine operates within safe guidelines to avoid overheating tissue.
• Baby’s safety: No evidence suggests harm when an ultrasound is used responsibly. We always follow recommended safety standards.
• Medical information: While you’ll see your baby in amazing detail, we do not perform medical diagnostics, measurements, or evaluations. Any questions about your baby’s health should be directed to your OB/GYN.
