Ultrasound has been used in pregnancy care for decades and is considered safe when performed properly. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound does not use radiation. Instead, it uses sound waves to create images of your baby. The FDA, ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists), and many studies have found no confirmed risks to mothers or babies when an ultrasound is used responsibly to industry and machine guidelines. We take great care to ensure that we only use settings that are appropriate for the stage of pregnancy you are in.

 There’s no single right answer — every family and every pregnancy is different.

Some families visit for a brief moment of reassurance, simply to see their baby and feel at ease. Others choose a deeper bonding experience, returning during the second or third trimester to share the moment with partners, grandparents, or siblings as baby’s features become more visible.

Our sessions are elective and non-diagnostic, designed to support connection, comfort, and meaningful time together — not medical evaluation. While there’s no set limit on elective ultrasounds, we encourage you to follow your healthcare provider’s guidance if you ever have questions or concerns.

While you’ll see your baby in beautiful detail, Sunbeam sessions are elective and non-diagnostic. We do not perform medical measurements, evaluations, or assessments. Any questions or concerns about your baby’s health should always be discussed with your OB/GYN or healthcare provider.
